Happenings & Miscellanny

Evhead Quits Google (and more) Well, it looks like the founder of Pyra, Evan Williams a.k.a "evhead" is quitting Google. For those who're not in the know, Evan was the the co-founder and CEO of Pyra Labs, the creators of Blogger. And it looks like he has plans of starting yet another venture, which I think should prove quite interesting! I particularly liked what he had to say about the IT industry - "A few months ago, I started getting the itch to start another company. There is so much momentum and opportunity on the web right now (he says, as if there hasn't been for the last 10 years). And, naturally, I have the "If I knew then, what I know now" feeling that makes starting again an exciting -- if daunting -- prospect." Indeed, Evan! As long as there are good ideas, recession or no recession, DotCom or DotBomb, innovation will never go unnoticed. Goodluck, mate. While we are still on the topic of innovation, this was an interesting article on Slashdot today - Rolling out your own television network using Bittorrent. Definitely worth a read and worth more than just a thought. And in other news, Web 2.0 Conference is up and running in San Francisco. So far, it's been quite interesting to watch. Let's see how it goes the next couple of days. Ghost in the Shell 2 - Innocence I happened to watch Ghost in the Shell 2: Innocence. It was quite cool -- not as good as the first part, but just different. Ofcourse, the graphics were quite breathtaking.

I'd intended to go see the movie with Zsófi, but she was out for the weekend hiking in the Smokeys. So, me and Lorenzo ended up watching it. It was quite well taken and the graphics seemed really sophisticated. The only downside was that everything was in Japanese (with English subtitles ofcourse, but still). Oh well, beggars can't be choosers I suppose :-) Other Startups Sujoy and Ram have also ventured into the world of startups, with their new company māyākalpā. They even have a couple of patents to kickstart, so goodluck to them! Happenings at Highbrew There is indeed a lot that is happening at Highbrew, unfortunately not all of it can be put up on blogs for people to see :-) Suffice it to say that we're gonna kick some serious ass in the upcoming year. Right, guys? Anyway, here's a brief rundown of what's happening --
  • The Chennai office is being setup at Ashok Nagar, and we're almost done with the selection process for the new employees of Highbrew Technologies (India) Pvt. Ltd. Yay!!!
  • Manoaj is working on a kick-ass new logo (right, Manoaj?) - so hopefully, we should be having that done in a while.
  • Parthy and I are on the lookout for some projects which can help us kickstart with a steady source of revenue until our products catch up.
  • Senthil and I have started work on the VR Glove & Visualization thingy, so let's see how that goes.
  • In other news, I'm back to my nocturnal sleepless caffeine driven schedule.
Well, that's about it. More to come later. Stay tuned - same bat time, same bat channel. BAM! WHAM! WHOOOM! WHOOOOOOOOSH! Okay, I'll stop.
